Packers lose starting linebacker Rashan Gary for the season

The defender suffered a knee injury in the loss to the Lions, Green Bay also fears cornerback Eric Stokes may not play again in 2022.

GREEN BAY -- The Green Bay Packers already know they've lost a starter for the rest of the season and are worried about losing another.

That was part of Sunday's debacle in a 15-9 loss to the Detroit Lions in which nine players were injured or required medical treatment.

The most severe was that of outside linebacker Rashan Gary, who suffered a torn ACL in his right knee. Head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that Gary's season is over.

LaFleur also said they're concerned that cornerback Eric Stokes' injuries were severe enough to end his season early. Stokes had a boot on his right foot and was on crutches after sustaining ankle and knee injuries.

Gary has been the Packers' most effective pass-rusher and perhaps their best defensive player this season with six sacks and 31 quarterback rushes. According to ESPN & Information, he ranked third in the NFL in rushing through Sunday. Slot Gacor

"It's a tremendous loss, not just the production obviously, it's just that he's a guy who competes at the highest level," LaFleur said. "He's one of the bravest guys on this team. And the effort that he brings on a daily basis is definitely going to be missed. The other guys around on defense and our team are going to have to work hard because it's hard to replace a guy. So".

Gary, selected in the first round of the draft in 2019, was one of the main candidates for a contract extension. The Packers exercised the fifth-year option on his rookie deal and that's guaranteed for $10.89 million. Now, it's unclear if he'll even be ready for the start of next season.

Wide receiver Romeo Doubs and running back Aaron Jones both suffered ankle injuries against the Lions. LaFleur did not rule out the possibility that Jones could play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. Doubs' injury, while not ending his season, could sideline him for several weeks.

Two other players, wide receiver Christian Watson and linebacker Krys Barnes, were taken off the field to be evaluated for concussions and did not finish the game. Barnes was placed on concussion protocol, but LaFleur said Watson did not have a concussion, although he did not return to play for the remainder of the game.

"That was all preemptive and I think it's the times we're living in right now and what happened against Buffalo," LaFleur said. "But it was determined 100 percent that it wasn't a concussion. In fact, he was dying to get back in the game and we thought it best to take him out because of what happened in Buffalo."

While all of that was going on, left tackle David Bakhtiari's recurring knee problems sidelined him for most of the second half; he returned for the Packers' final series. Right guard Jon Runyan (knee) and tight end Robert Tonyan (cramps) also briefly left the game but returned.

The Packers (3-6) have played five straight and host the Cowboys (6-2) on Sunday.
