Athletic has no offers from other clubs for any of its renewables
Barça has not asked to negotiate for Iñigo Martínez while Nico and Sancet, with a contract until 2024, have not aroused immediate interest from other teams either
Athletic arrives at the start of the World Cup with the squad on vacation and its internationals focused on a good participation with Spain (Simón and Nico Williams) and Ghana (Iñaki Williams). The three World Cup players have contracts beyond June and the club calmly faces what the Qatar event may bring. The market is not scary.
The club is sure regarding its World Cup players, but also with other players whom it intends to renew. None of the Athletic players whose contract ends this year or the next have presented offers from other teams or have asked Athletic to deal with their departure. The closest case is that of Iñigo Martínez, who had the opportunity to go to Barcelona in July but Athletic did not consider the Barca proposal.
The proximity of the winter market has not resulted in new offers to hire Iñigo Martínez, who if he does not fix his continuity in Athletic will arrive free to a new destination, ensuring a bonus on the file by signing as a free agent.
The lack of offers for Iñigo Martínez also extends to footballers such as Nico Williams, one of those chosen by Luis Enrique, or Sancet, who did not enter the call but did appear on the shortlist of 55 selectable presented to FIFA. Neither the youngest of the Williams nor Sancet, both with a contract until 2024, have captivated so much far from Bilbao that some team clearly shows their interest in signing them by trying a transfer with Athletic.
Athletic maintains the idea of renewing the three players, even more Nico and Sancet, who are young and have an extraordinary career ahead of them. The renewal of Iñigo Martínez is the one that to date has given him the most headaches because the central defender no longer responded to a proposal from the previous board. The negotiation with Nico Williams and Sancet will not be left for the last year, although in Ibaigane they are aware that it will involve more than one meeting and it will not be sitting down and signing.
