Pathé Ciss will be the only representative of Rayo in Qatar
Abdul Mumin, who was on the shortlist of 55 from Ghana, has been left out of the final list this Monday
Rayo Vallecano will be in Qatar. It will do so with less representation than expected, but it will meet the objective of being able to see some of its players at the World Cup. With Catena, Isi, and company on everyone's lips, the only footballer who will finally represent the Strip will be Pathé Ciss. The Dakar midfielder has crept into Aliou Cissé's final list of 26, having never worn his country's shirt until last September. In that first citation, Ciss made his debut playing the first 63 minutes of a friendly against Bolivia. The clash, which took place on September 24, would end with a 0-2 win for the Senegalese. However, the Rayista footballer would run out of minutes in the duel against Iran played four days later.
Once included in Aliou Cissé's final list, Pathé Ciss' goal is to gain a place in the eleven of Senegal that is drawn in Group A, along with the Netherlands, Qatar, and Ecuador. It will not be easy in a midfield that includes players of the likes of Gueye from Everton, Pape Sarr from Tottenham, Kouyaté from Nottingham Forest, or Nampalys Mendy from Leicester.
His good defensive work makes him the third red-and-red footballer with the most successful actions in this facet, and his ability to arrive -including a goal against Espanyol- has opened the doors to a dream that a year ago was practically impossible. To this, we must add that this season he plays much more. The Senegalese have gone from playing 476 minutes in the first 14 days of 2021-2022 to 637 this season.
Abdul Mumin remains at the gates of the World Cup dream
The one who will not be able to meet the challenge of being in Qatar will be the Ghanaian Abdul Mumin. The man from Accra was one step away, after being ruled out this Monday by coach Otto Addo, who had included him in the shortlist of 55. The German-born coach has opted for Daniel Amartey, Joseph Aidoo, Alexander Djiku, Mohammed Salisu, and Alidu Seidu to occupy the center of the rear.
His little participation in Rayo, he has barely added 191 minutes between the League and the Cup, has closed the doors of a Ghanaian team to which he had been summoned in 3 of the last 4 calls, but with which he has not yet made his debut. Despite the World Cup setback, Mumin will now have the challenge of completing the adaptation process to a top-level league like the Spanish one and to a club like Rayo, who bet heavily on him last summer.
