Alonso: "I'm sure we'll be able to come back tomorrow"
Fernando acknowledges that he is satisfied with the work he has done on Friday
There is less and less left for the season to end and, with it, Fernando Alonso's adventure with Alpine. Afterwards, he will go to Aston Martin. And although he already has part of his thoughts focused on the future, the truth is that his mind must be anchored to the present to try to help his team get that fourth place in the Constructors. And that is it.
It was not a bad Friday for Alonso. He managed, at times, to be placed first. And he likes crazy conditions, like the ones in this qualy. Normally he usually comes out well because he usually invents something that makes him in the top positions.
In Saturday's Sprint race he will start seventh, a position that is already familiar to him. His teammate, Ocon will be the sixth. Such were the positions when Russell went off the track with eight minutes remaining and ended the chances of the others.
But Fernando is "satisfied with today's classification." He knows that it is a result obtained in "very complicated conditions". “At the beginning, with the intermediate tires, we adapted quickly and it was nice to be in the first place!” he maintains.
Later, things got a little more complicated, when the track conditions changed again and were more similar to those of Free Practice 1, where he didn't even get to test the soft tires. In those FP1 he had a fairly discreet performance.
But it didn't fare too badly either: "Once we switched to dry tires, we were back in first place at all times and seemed to be quick in these challenging conditions," analyzes the Alpine driver.
The problem came when the rain fell again on the Interlagos circuit. "In Q3, when it started to rain, it was always going to benefit those at the front of the queue," reflects Fernando.
So he is satisfied with that seventh place in which he will start. "We probably missed the chance to start higher for the Sprint, but tomorrow the goal is to make up some places and I'm sure it's possible."
